About this register

The National Rural Development Database (NRDD) is the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development and Disaster Management's single record of rural development projects: what is planned, approved, under way and completed, where, at what cost and for how many people.

What you can see here

  • Projects that have been approved, are under way or are completed, on a map and as a list.
  • The type of project, the village, tikina and province, the year, the approved budget, progress and the number of households benefiting.

What is not published

  • Applications still being considered.
  • Names, phone numbers and other details of community contacts and beneficiaries.
  • Internal notes, approvals and payment records.
Programmes

How projects are funded

Projects reach communities through the Ministry's programmes.

Community Access Roads, Footpaths and Footbridges

Access for villages and settlements cut off by rivers, hills or poor roads.

Disaster Rehabilitation Programme

Rebuilding and resilience works after cyclones, floods and other disasters.

Integrated Human Resource Development Programme

Income-generating projects for communities, women and youth groups.

Rural and Outer Islands Programme

Infrastructure and services for remote and maritime communities.

Rural Housing Assistance

Housing for vulnerable rural families.

Self-Help Programme

Community infrastructure built with a community contribution in cash, labour or materials.

Applying for a project

Start with your District Office

Communities apply through their District Office. The District Officer helps the village committee complete the application and sends it on for appraisal.

The village decides

The village committee agrees what it needs and what it will give, and the landowners give their consent.

The District Office applies

A field officer fills in the application with the committee, at the site, with photos and the consent letter.

Checked and approved

The District Officer and the Planning Officer check it, and the Director approves it. Larger projects also go to the Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary.

Built together

The works go ahead with the community's own labour and materials, and officers visit to see the progress.

Handed over

The finished works are checked on site and handed to the community to look after.
